The Galaxy, Band 24,Ausgabe 1 -Band 25,Ausgabe 1
The Galaxy was best known for the pages it devoted to fiction in each and every issue. At least one serial, sometimes two or three, and a number of short stories and poems were included. Richard Grant White, Justin McCarthy, Rebecca Harding Davis, Jane G. Austin, and Paul Hamilton Hayne (to name only a few) contributed often. However, the most popular section was entitled "Memoranda." This was written and edited by Mark Twain. Although the department appeared for only a year, it was then that the magazine reached its highest circulation. By 1878, circulation had declined greatly and the Galaxy was absorbed by the Atlantic Monthly.
