CHAP. 131.—An Act Granting an increase of pension to Martha V. Keenan.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Martha V. Keenan, widow of John F. Keenan, late private, Company D, District of Columbia and Maryland Volunteers, war with Mexico, and pay her a pension at the rate of twelve dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Levi Cross, late of Company A, Eleventh Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving. Terrill, late of Captain Williams's company, Louisiana Volunteers, Florida Indian war, and pay her a pension at the rate of twelve dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to pay to the Payment to trustees. trustees of Carson and Newman College, formerly the Mossycreek Baptist College, at Jefferson City, Tennessee, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of six thousand dollars, in full compensation for the use, occupation, and consumption of the property of said college and trustees by the military forces of the United States during the late war of the rebellion.

CHAP. 137.-An Act To authorize Commander James M. Miller, United States Navy; Surgeon Oliver D. Norton, United States Navy, and Mr. Edwin V. Morgan, formerly secretary of the Samoan Commission and now secretary of the legation of the United States at Seoul, Korea, to accept presents tendered to them by His Majesty the Emperor of Germany.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That Commander James M. Miller, United States Navy: Surgeon Oliver D. Norton, United States Navy, and Mr. Edwin V. Morgan, formerly secretary of the Samoan Commission and now secretary of the legation of the United States at Seoul, Korea, be, and they are hereby, authorized to accept, respectively, a gold watch and chain, a marine glass, and a silver writing table, tendered to them through the Department of State of the United States by His Majesty the Emperor of Germany, King of Prussia; and the Department of State is hereby authorized to deliver the testimonials mentioned to them.

CHAP. 138.-An Act For the relief of Mary Chambers, widow of Thomas Cham bers.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Mary Chambers, widow of Thomas Chambers, of Mackinac, Michigan, the sum of three thousand six hundred and fifty-four dollars and fifty-six cents, in full compensation for the additional expenses incurred by him in carrying the Canada mails, as contractor on route numbered twenty-four thousand four hundred and thirteen, from Sault de Sainte Marie, Michigan, to Mackinac, Michigan, from July first, eighteen hundred and seventyfive, to June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and seventy-nine, inclusive, he having contracted to carry the United States mails only. Approved, March 4, 1902.

Adams, late of Company A, Eighth Regiment Maine Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Henriette Salomon Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Henriette Salomon, widow of Frederick Salomon, late brigadier-general, United States Volunteers, and pay her a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving. Approved, March 10, 1902.

CHAP. 150.-An Act Granting a pension to Nellie Bartlett.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Nellie Bartlett, widow of Eli V. Bartlett, junior, late of Company L, Second Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Heavy Artillery, and pay her a pension at the rate of eight dollars per month, and two dollars per month additional on account of each of the minor children of the said Eli V. Bartlett, junior, until they reach the age of sixteen years.

Curtis, late of Company D, Twentythird Regiment Maine Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving. Approved, March 10, 1902.
