At Kirktown of Largo, Mr Thomas Pirrie, surgeon in the 35th year of his age; a young man of eminent professional abilities, accompanied with most gentle and amiable manners. His memory will long be cherished by all who shared in his friendship, or were soothed by his sympathy, and relieved by his skill.

At Dumfries, Mr John Herries, late merchant, Manchester, aged 32.

Lately, Lieutenant-General Chapman, of the royal artillery, at Kingston, Somer. setshire. He served many years in America and the West Indies, with honour to himself and advantage to his country. He Major-General Vesey, aged 40. had been on a tour round the Ionion Isles and through the Archipelago, when on his return, he was seized with a malignant fever. He was a very brave and worthy officer.

At Batavia, Major Frederick Liardet, of the royal marines, who was actively and honourably employed in the reduction of that place.

At Celerico, Lieutenant Downes, of the 48th regiment, much regretted.

W. Chatfield, of Cowfold, at the uncommon age of 105 years, after only a short previous illness The chief amusement of this old man, for the last seven or eight years, was angling, which he practised with the keenness of a youthful sports. man, and with considerable skill, nearly to the day of his death.

At Bengal, Major George Eagle, of the 2d battalion native infantry.

James Schiffer, a husbandman, who died on the 29th uit at Glassen, near Cologne, attained the advanced age of 109 years. He led a life of temperance and activity. When bordering on his centenary year, he was vigorous enough to sustain the labour of threshing corn. At that age he lost his sight, the only infirmity which he ever experienced. He retained his mental faculties to the last.
