Book, full of adventure and interest, by Capt. Mayne Reid, of Mexican and Indian tale celebrity: it is entitled "The English Family Robinson." A new volume of Californian Life is nearly ready, by one who lived fourteen months at the diggings, and who from his ability and station may be justly expected to produce a work not only interesting, but practically useful. A new and complete edition of the Works of Dr. Isaac Barrow, edited by the Syndics of the University Press of Cambridge, will be shortly published by Messrs. J. W. Parker and Son. THE present state of British Agriculture all over England, is the subject of a volume promised by the "Times" it will comprise the results of the enquiries and experience of their "Commissioner," and must, under the able editorship of Mr. James Caird, prove a book of the utmost value to the Landowner, Agriculturist, and Politician of every party. The next "Quarterly Review" will contain an article upon Junius and his Letters, the Editor of the "Grenville Papers," which, doubtless, will prove the text for the article in question, favours the claim of Lord Temple to the disputed title of authorship. Dr. Freund, the Philologist, is in London, engaged in constructing a German-English and English-German Dictionary on his new system, which he contemplates being prepared with by the end of the year. Bible teachers and students of every grade will be glad to hear that the second volume of Mr. Mimpriss' valuable "Treasury Harmony" is now published, completing the work. MR. J. H. PARKER has just ready, " An Attempt to Illustrate the Christian Year," consisting of twenty-five original designs. These may be purchased either bound with the new library edition of the "Christian Year," or separately to illustrate former editions. MR. WASHBOURNE has published a new Edition of Milton, with the beautiful engravings from Martin, which have undergone a careful retouch, and the impressions now produced will bear a strict comparison with the early proofs. Evidences are daily being afforded of the progress made in American literature and style of publishing; Lossing's "Field-Book of the Revolution," has gained it another laurel, the Athenæum, in reviewing this work last week, says, "We have scarcely ever met with a publication more genuine and bona fide,-its merits are of a high order,-in every case there is the strong charm of faithfulness and character about it,—we shall await the appearance of Mr. Lossing's second volume with impatience." "INDIA IN GREECE" is the title of a work just ready for publication by Messrs. Griffin & Co., which promises to afford great interest by its new interpretations of ancient documents, and the extraordinary facts selected from oriental languages and Grecian mythology it gives light to,-tending both to corroborate sacred history and to substitute geographical facts and intelligible history for wild and mysterious classic legends. The Proprietors of the "National Illustrated Library" have published one or two extra volumes at a higher price, comprising a Christmas Tale from the German, a New Novel by the Author of "Valentine Vox," and Upham's "Life of Washington," in two volumes; the latter, an American work, is perhaps the best concise memoir of their great General that has been published: it appears to be compiled from his own journals and correspondence, and to be edited well.
