THE Editor has inserted the whole of the sacred text, and has arranged the Commentary in sections of suitable length for family reading. He has taken no liberty with the author's doctrinal views, having only joined the notes upon a single verse into a connected comment, where it could be done; and has occasionally changed the person, to prevent the difficulty of using it in the family circle. The intrinsic worth of the author, and the spirit of practical piety which is diffused throughout the whole Comment on the Four Evangelists, has led the editor to hope that, through the divine blessing, the work may prove profitable to every sincere Christian ; and that the author, though dead, may yet speak to the edification of the Church of Christ, and the furtherance of his religion in the world.
