The Buddha of ChristendomCosimo, Inc., 01.04.2007 - 344 Seiten Sir Robert Anderson pits the Bible against organized Christianity (most specifically, the Roman Catholic Church) in The Buddha of Christendom, and takes the side of Scripture. He argues that the Church considers its reading of the Bible to be the one true reading and dissuades its followers from their own interpretations. But the result, he claims, is an obstacle, not a facilitator, between the lay Christian and his Bible. As he asks in the beginning of the book, "is.the supreme authority.the Bible or the Church"? Also containing arguments against atheism and evolution, The Buddha of Christendom is as topical today as it was when first published in 1899. While at Scotland Yard, Irish police official and religious scholar SIR ROBERT ANDERSON (1841-1918) helped investigate the Jack the Ripper murders, but he is best remembered for his works of Bible study, including The Coming Prince, Daniel in the Critics' Den, and The Silence of God. |

Seite 219 - This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them ; and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Seite 113 - For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it ? Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it ? But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
Seite 35 - AND Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

Seite 295 - The visible church of Christ is a congregation of faithful men, in the which the pure Word of God is preached, and the sacraments be duly ministered according to Christ's ordinance in all those things that of necessity are requisite to the same.
Seite 128 - Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thy heart may be forgiven thee. For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
Seite 127 - Is any among you sick? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord...
Seite 15 - ... and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind : and God saw that it was good.
