CHARLES CLINTON, TILDEN LIF 1895 M. Youngloves 1822 THE MEDLEY. REVERY. WITH sweetest fragrance flow'd the liquid air, When woo'd by sober eve I sought the shade, Where lucid moon-beams, thro' the pendant boughs, Flecker'd with gloom, in motley figures play'd; Night in her loveliest robes array'd, To Fancy's perchant still allows Creative licence-soon through grot and glade Clad as she lists, in vestments foul or fair, And at her call the airy forms appear. The grove thus peopling, pleas'd I stray'd afar, Amid the starry host of heaven, Or trac'd the path of Phoebus' flaming car, Or sigh'd when thwart the dusk she met a falling star. |
