(g) If a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done unto him.

(b) If men strive and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow; he shall be surely punished according as the woman's husband lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

(i) Cursed be he that smiteth his neighbour secretly.

Adultery.

(4) Thou shalt not commit adultery.

(1) If a man committeth adultery with another man's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

(m) If any man's wife hath gone aside to another, instead of her husband, she shall be a curse among her people.

(n) Whoso committeth adultery with a woman, lacketh understanding; he that doth it, destroyeth his own soul. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. For jealously is the rage of a man; therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance: He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

Corrupting Virgins.

But

(p) But if a man find a betrothed damsel, and force her and lie with her, then the man only that lay with her shall die.

(9) If a man entice a mind that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money, according to the dowry of virgins.

Stealing.

(r) Thou shalt not steal.

(s) Thou shalt not rob thy neighbour.

(t) He that stealeth a man, and selleth him; or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

(u) If a man shall steal an ox or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. If the theft be found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, ass, or sheep, he shall restore double.

(w) If a thief be found breaking up, he shall make full restitution; and if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

(x) When thou commest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thý fill; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel. When thou comest into the standing-corn of thy neighbour's, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thy hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle 'into thy neighbour's standing-corn.

(y) Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith it is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

(x) Let him that stole steal no more; but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Trespass and Damage.

(a) Remove not the ancient landmarks, which thy fathers have set. For cursed is he that removeth his neighbour's landmark.

(b) If a man shall cause a field or a vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man's field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.

(c) He that killeth a beast shall make it good;

beast for beast.

(d) If a fire break out, so that the corn be consumed therewith, he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.

(e) If a man borrow ought of his neighbour, and it be hurt or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good: But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good. If it be an hired thing, it came for its hire.

() For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment; or for any manner of lost thing, which another challengeth to be his; the cause of both parties shall come before the judges, and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.

(*) Oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, nor the poor, neither vex a stranger. Rob not the poor, because he is poor, neither oppress the afflicted in the gate, for the Lord will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

(1) Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant, that is poor and needy. At his day thou shalt. give him his hire, his wages shall not abide with thee all night unto the morning: for he is poor and setteth his heart upon it, lest he cry against thee unto the Lord, and it be sin unto thee.

(m) Wo unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour's service without wages, and giveth him not for his work.

(n) He that oppresseth the poor, reproacheth his maker.

(r) What mean ye, that ye grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord of hosts.
