GOD MANIFEST IN HIS WORKS.
Is there a man, whose uprais'd eye
Has view'd the wonders of the sky ;-
Unnumber'd orbs with lustre bright;
The moon, fair regent of the night;
The potent king of blazing day:
His peerless majesty display;

Nor e'er has ask'd, nor sought to know,
Whose wisdom 'twas that made them so?

Is there a man, whose eye has seen
Earthy beauteous robe of vivid green ;
Where beauties numberless expand,
Bedeck'd by nature's bounteous hand,
A cheering heart-dilating view,
For" ever charming, ever new;".
Nor e'er has ask'd, nor sought to know,
What gracious power has made them so?
Is there a man, whose far spread glance
Has swept o'er ocean's vast expanse,
When tempest-rous'd, its billows rise,
Madly contending with the skies;
Or when the raging storm subsides,
And peaceful roll the gentle tides;
Nor e'er has ask'd, nor sought to know,
Whose power it was that made them so?
Is there a man, who self has view'd
With godlike faculties endu'd :
A body form'd with angel's grace,
And scarcely of inferior race;
Immortal heir of heaven confess'd?
With stamp of Deity impress'd;
Nor e'er has ask'd, nor sought to know,
Whose goodness 'twas that made him so?
If such a thoughtless wretch there be,
How sunk and how debas'd is he!
Consign him with the beastial train,
To feed on husks, or graze the plain;
And never let his careless eye
The wonders view of earth and sky,
Till he has known, or sought to know,
The Almighty power that made them so!

"IT IS FINISHED."

John 19th, Verse 30th.

'Tis finish'd! 'tis finish'd! the work is completed,
Salvation's accomplish'd, the church is secure;
The prince of the power of the air is defeated,
And death is abolish'd, and glory is sure.

'Tis finish'd! the purpose of love is effected,
The law is fulfill'd, and the gospel reveal'd;
The stone is preferr'd which the builders rejected,
The wound of the daughter of Judah is heal'd.
"Tis finish'd! the Jewish œconomy's ended,

The wall of partition is raz'd to the ground;
Free grace to the ends of the earth is extended,
And pardon and peace to the Gentiles abound.
'Tis finish'd! the reign of the dark dispensation,
Of shadows and figures and types is no more;
The temple, the altar, the priest, the oblation,
In Jesus embodied, their office is o'er.

'Tis finish'd! stern justice 'erst frowning indignant,
By Calvary's sacrifice fully appeas'd,
Now smiles on the justified sinner benignant,

And God in the Son of His love is well pleas'd.
'Tis finish'd! weak, tempted, desponding believer,
Thy sins, which are many, are freely forgiv'n;
The Lord, thy Redeemer, is strong to deliver,
And He shall conduct thee in safety to Heav'n.

"Tis finish'd! backslider, returning heart-broken,
O'erwhelm'd with remorse and contrition and shame;
Thy sorrow and anguish thy pardon betoken,
The love of Jehovah is ever the same.

"Tis finish'd! O sinner, profanely rejecting
The one only medium of mercy propos'd;
How canst thou escape, this salvation neglecting;
How awful thy guilt who such grace hast oppos'd.
J. S. HARVEY.
