FOURTH DECLENSION. Two terminations : -ως, -ω, both feminine; as, ἡ αἰδὼς, shame ; ἡ φειδώ, parsimony. One termination : -ας, neut. ; as, τὸ κέρας, a horn. Words in -aç, of neuter gender, are often declined like σῶμα, not being contracted at all; as, τέρας, a portent, gen. τέρατος. NOUNS ADJECTIVE. CLASS I. (THREE TERMINATIONS.) 1. In -ος, -η, -ο v, when the -ος is not pure (i.e. not preceded by a vowel or ῥ), 28, καλός, -ή, -όν, beautiful. 2. In-os, -a, -ov; when the -os is pure (i. e. preceded by a vowel or p), as, dikaι-os, -a, -ov, just; Masc. Γ. N. Ν. καλὸς τὴ τὸν G. καλοῦ τῆς τοῦ D. καλῷ τῇ ῷ Α. καλὸν —ὴν —ὸν V. καλέ ὴ τὸν ἐχθρὸς, τὰ, τὸν, hostile. 3. In –εις, εσσα, εν ; as, χαρίεις, pleasing. |
