Q, What did Jesus Christ bear upon the cross?

A. Our sins.

Q. And what did he pay then?
A. Our ransom.

Q. What do you mean by our ransom?

A. The price which our Redeemer paid for the pardon of our sins. Q. What was that price?

A. His precious blood.

Q. What part of this hymn speaks of the resurrection of Christ?

"Behold him rising from the grave." Q. Prove from Scripture that Christ rose from the grave.

Q. What does our Lord tell us, in Matt. xxv. 34, that he will say to the righteous at the day of Judgment?

A. "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." Q. Then what is the prayer which you offer up at the end of this hymn? "O may I then with joy appear Before the Judge's face;

And with the bless'd assembly there
Sing his redeeming grace!"

SCRIPTURE, WITH NOTES. Isaiah lv. 6. "Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near."

Here Christ invites us to a sincere repentance, and to accept of mercy while it is to be obtained. "Now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation." Grace is freely offered to all; all are called upon to come. This is an act of infinite goodness; yet the words" while he may be found," and "while he is near," carry with them no small terror, as plainly intimating to us that there is a time when he shall not be found; a day when he shall not be near: "when the wicked shall call upon him, but he will not answer; when they shall seek him early, but they shall not find him," Wogan.

Those who throw away their religious opportunities, and refuse to accept the mercies offered to them, grow so hardened in sin and indifference, that they are every day farther from the way of salvation, and thus do not seek aright the mercy of God. The day will still probably come, when they shall tremble at the thoughts of

judgment to come. But when they "seek," from fear only, without any real regard for religion, any love for God, any desire to be faithful and obedient followers of Christ,-thes calling upon God" he will not answer, thus" seeking him" they shall not find him.

Hast thou a real love of God? thou art delivered from the real love of sin. They cannot stand together. Sin, like the idol of the Philistines, will fall upon the ground before the ark of God*.

He who, by example, is the cause of sin in others, will resemble Samson, who perished in the ruins which he had prepared for those around him.

Christ tells us that there is but one thing necessary; nature tells us that every thing is necessary but that.— Bp. Hall.

Who can doubt that God possesses the means of providing for his creatures, when he sees the very ravens forget their own hunger, and bring food to Elijah, 1 Kings x. 7. Let not our faith be wanting in God; will never be wanting to us.
