SERMON I.

TEXT:

A garden enclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.-Solomon's Song iv. 12.

"EITHER What woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbors together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost."-Luke 15: 8, 9.

And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an helpmeet for him."Gen. 2: 18.

"A certain man had two sons: And the younger* of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living." Luke 15: 11, 12.

"The words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end." (Daniel 12: 9.) which was to be revealed at the end of times, which is the sixth day, which is now at hand; that which was lost is to be found, and that which the old world says is dead, will be found alive; "For this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found." Luke 15: 32. "For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same

§ Israel.

is my brother, and my sister, and mother," (Mark iii. 35.); and that which has been hitherto sealed, is unsealed-" For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, and hid that shall not be known." (Luke x. 26.)—to them that will receive it, which was proved by Jesus on the fifth day; and the third dispensation, that the face of the covering, (Isaiah xxv. 7.) which is cast over all people, should be taken away on the sixth. Therefore that which has hitherto been concealed is now being revealed to those who have sought for their eyes to be anointed and their candle lighted. "The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly," Prov. xx. 27, Luke xv. 8, Rev. iii. 18. The tree of life has been as a garden enclosed, a fountain sealed from man since he fell; For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope." Rom. viii. 20, 21. Then "God placed cherubims, and a flaming sword, which turned every way to keep the way of the tree of life," (Gen. iii. 24.) till the fulness of the Gentiles (Rom. xi. 25), had come in but the fulness of the Gentiles being now at hand, the tree of life is again offered to man, that the spirits of the just may receive it, Heb. x. 11, 23. || "The leaves of the tree

were for the healing of the nations. T And there shall be no more curse," Rev. xxii. 2, 3. "I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it; for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name," iii. 8. Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely," xxii. 17. "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life," 14. "To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God," ii. 7.** "The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy," Rev. xix. 10.

The first curse is that which was pronounced on the body of Adam and his posterity, for the disobedience of the spirits; they being shut up in prison till the resurrection, and Christ went to preach to them after the death of his body. And the

§ The fallen spirits to receive bodies wherein evil was placed.

The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly. Prov. xx. 27.

Which is the immortal Spirit of Christ for the male; and for the female, the immor tal Spirit of the bride, which is of the bridegroom.
