PRAISE ye the Lord! It is good to sing unto our God. It is pleasant, and comely is the hymn of praise.-Ps. 147, 1.

IN psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord.-Ephesians v. 19.

FROM all that dwell below the skies

Let the Creator's praise arise;

Let the Redeemer's Name be sung
Through every land, by every tongue!

Eternal are Thy mercies, Lord!

Eternal truth attends Thy word:

Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore,
Till suns shall rise and set no more.

-Isaac Watts.

How did I weep in Thy hymns and canticles, touched to the quick by the voices of Thy sweet-attunèd Church ?-St. Augustine.

Beyond my highest joy,

I prize her heavenly ways;

Her sweet communion, solemn vows,

Her hymns of love and praise.-T. Dwight.
