SCRIPTURE ACCOUNT of the circumstancesand of the EFFICACY of CHRIST'S DEATH ;with suitable PRAYERS-containing

1. An historical relation of the sufferings and death of our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ;-with a prayer for a participation in the benefits thereof.

2. Scripture proofs that the death of our Saviour Christ upon the cross was a true and proper sacrifice offered up by Him for the atonement of sin, and accepted by the Father as a full satisfaction, in the behalf of all those

who shall comply with the terms of the new covenant in His blood;-with a thanksgiving for the propitiation of Christ's death.

1. Historical relation of the sufferings and death of our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill Jesus; for they feared the people.

Luke xxii. 1, 2. Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him unto them.

Luke xxii. 3, 4.

And he said unto them, what will ye give me, and I will deliver Him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces. of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him. Matt. xxvi. 15, 16.

Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disci

ples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith He unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with Me. And He went a little farther, and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, O My Father, if it be possible let this cup pass from Me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou wilt. And He cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O My Father, if this cup may not pass away from Me, except I drink it, Thy will be done. And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. And He left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

Matt. xxvi. 36-44.

And there appeared an angel unto Him. from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in an agony He prayed more earnestly: and
