"The author's aim in this work is to defend a portion of primary truth which has been assailed by John Stuart Mill, an acute thinker who has extensive influence in England. The author attempts to expose the inconsistencies, the misunderstandings, and mistakes to be found in Mr. Mill's Examination of Sir William Hamilton's Philosophy or any of his other works. This author argues that Hamilton was the ablest and most learned defender of intuitive or a priori truth in our country in the past age. Mill, however, attacks this idea and advances deductive empiricism.
