I may add, that, although before I became acquainted with the valuable works of Westcott, I had arrived at conclusions very similar to his respecting the meaning of certain words and phrases, I have preferred quoting him, thinking that more value would be attached to his opinions than to any I might advance. During the last three years, in which the following pages have, with considerable difficulty, been prepared for the press, in consequence of constant pain, accompanied with mental and physical prostration, my mind has been frequently refreshed through being reminded of the glorious privileges now enjoyed, as well as those treasured up in Christ for all who believe. The rays of light from the inner life of Christ have also been both refreshing and invigorating. The thought of being with Jesus, and knowing that that implies being like Him, may assuredly cheer us in trouble, comfort us in the midst of sorrow, and if we have the needed strength, send us forth in active service for Him. The work has been repeatedly put away, with a fear that I should never have sufficient strength to com plete it; but through mercy the pleasant task has been accomplished, and is now committed to the care of our heavenly Father, hoping and praying that, through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, He may bless it to many of His own dear children, and also to some who, before reading it, were not believers in Jesus: so that both the Father and the Son may be glorified. 9, GRECIAN TERRACE, CLAREMONT ROAD, TUNBRIDGE WELLS.
