THE REVISED AND THE AUTHORIZED VERSIONS. One of the SEVERAL NEW FEATURES introduced in our book this year, the first of a six years' course planned by the new International Lesson Committee, is the new Holman's arrangement of the two versions on the best plan yet invented for the com"Linear Parallel parison and use of the two versions. We have obtained permission of A. J. Teacher's Bible." Holman & Co. to use in the text of the lessons their copyrighted arrangement in the Linear Parallel Bible, just published. It presents in a single line and in large, clear type the texts of the Authorized and Revised Versions, where said texts are alike. Where they are unlike, either in language, spelling, italicization, capitalization, parenthesis, punctuation, or otherwise, the difference is clearly and at once set forth by means Its of double lines of smaller type, making a readily and easily readable combined Characteristics. text. Thus, direct and instant comparisons of the respective texts are assured, and all complexities and imperfections are avoided. Both eye and mind are instantly, and as fast as one can read, addressed to every difference of the two versions. The plan is so simple and easy that young children have read from the Linear Parallel Bible at family prayers with no difficulty whatever. To read the Authorized Version, one has How to Use but to read the large type line along to any point of difference in the respective versions, and then follow the UPPER small type line through such difference. Likewise, to read the Revised Version, one has but to read the large type line along to any difference in the respective versions, and then follow the LOWER Small type line through such difference. This rule holds as to every difference, even to that of a comma. Thus, not only the readings but the comparisons of the two versions become easy, immediate, satisfactory, and perfect. This Bible is becoming very popular with teachers and ministers, and will give a new inspiration to Bible study. This plan is copyrighted, and must not be used without permission of the publishers,

VARIOUS HELPS FOR TEACHING.

We are to study Christ himself for a year and a half consecutively. He should walk before us in all his glory, and beauty, and power so that we can see him as he was, and as he is, as really as we see with our bodily eyes any human being. His life and character should be impressed on ourselves and on our scholars as never before. In order to do this, we need to study the lessons not only as detached portions, however instructive and beautiful, but also as parts of the whole life and character of Christ, details of the picture of our ever-living Saviour. We want all through the year to see Jesus as a child, as a young man, as a reformer, as a teacher, as a Redeemer; hear his words, study his deeds, note his character, watch his dealings with all classes of men, in all circumstances of life, training disciples, bringing in the kingdom of God, dying for men, raised again, and sitting on the right hand of the Father. To accomplish this purpose, there is provided:

1. A thorough explanation and unfolding of each lesson in detail, with practical applications and illustrations.

2. A new Harmony, so arranged as to show clearly the principal divisions of the life and ministry of Christ, the influence of John, the growing opposition, and the regions where Jesus labored. Each event is numbered so that each lesson can easily find its place in the whole scheme.

3. A colored chart shows the same in a different way, and in a more condensed form.

4. The plan of each lesson is given with details and suggestions to teachers, as a hint, or suggestion, or basis of plans that each teacher can work out for himself.

5. The place of each lesson in the life of Christ is given. It is also referred to by the event numbers in the Harmony.

6. Whatever art and literature can do to make the picture of Christ more vivid is brought to bear on the lesson.

7. The "Open Parliament " suggests themes to be investigated or discussed in the class.

8. Pictures, a colored map, and an idealized picture of the Sea of Galilee in the time of Christ help to make the scenes more real and vivid.
