HE noble author of the following Letters was the only fon and heir of Charles, the fourth earl of Orrery, by lady Elizabeth Cecil, daughter of John earl of Exeter. He was born January 2, 1706-7. Mr. Fenton, the author of Mariamne, and, one of the coadjutors of Mr. Pope in the Odyey, who had been fecretary to lord. Orrery in fome of his campaigns in Flanders, and who, after being difmiffed from that employment in 1705, had been mafter of the free-fchool at Sevenoak in Kent, was again taken into the earl's family as tutor to his fon*. He taught lord Boyle
