immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him, Matt. iv. 18-22. And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him, ix. 9. The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me, John i. 43. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more, 2 Cor. v. 16.

b It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found, Luke xv. 32. And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins, Ephes. ii. 1. Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved ;)

thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them. Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth, civ. 6-9. Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm à calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven, cvii. 28-30. The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back. The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs. What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs? Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the God of Jacob, cxiv. 3-7. When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth, Prov. viii. 28, 29. Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer, Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem ? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst. I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering. The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned, Isa. 1. 2—4. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth, Nah. i. 4. And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the might he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed

by them. But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered, Mark vi. 48-51. And he had in his hand a little book open and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth, Rev. x. 2.

Καὶ ἐλθόντι αὐτῷ εἰς τὸ πέραν εἰς τὴν χώραν τῶν Γεργεσηνῶν, ὑπήντησαν αὐτῷ δύο δαιμονιζόμενοι, ἐκ τῶν μνημείων ἐξερχόπαρελθεῖν διὰ τῆς ὁδοῦ ἐκείνης. μενοι, χαλεποὶ λίαν, ὥστε μὴ ἰσχύειν τινὰ

And a when he was come to the other side into the country of the b Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, d coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

a And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes, Mark v. 1. And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over-against Galilee, Luke viii. 26.

dAnd when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any mun tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones, Mark v. 2-5. And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs, Luke viii. 27. For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness, 29.

Καὶ ἰδοὺ, ἔκραξαν λέγοντες· Τί ἡμῖν καὶ σο, Ἰησοῦ υἱὲ τοῦ Θεοῦ; ἦλθες ὧδε πρὸ καιροῦ βασανίσαι ἡμᾶς;

And, behold, they cried out, saying, a What have we to do with thee, Jesus, b thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

a Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God, Mark i. 24. And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not, v. 7. Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy

us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God, Luke iv. 34. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not, viii. 28.

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgAnd the angels ment, 2 Pet. ii. 4. which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness, unto the judgment of the great day, Jude 6.

VER. 30.

*Ην δὲ μακρὰν ἀπ' αὐτῶν ἀγέλη χοίρων πολλῶν βοσκομένη.

Οἱ δὲ δαίμονες παρεκάλουν αὐτὸν, λέγοντες· Εἰ ἐκβάλλεις ἡμᾶς, ἐπίτρεψον ἡμῖν ἀπελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ἀγέλην τῶν χοίρων.

So the devils besought him, saying,

If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.

a And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them, Mark v. 7. 12. And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said Legion because many devils were entered into him. And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them And he suffered them. Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked, Luke viii. 30-33.

Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Υπάγετε. Oi dè, ἐξελθόντες ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὴν ἀγέλην τῶν χοίξων· καὶ ἰδοὺ, ὥρμησε πᾶσα ἡ ἀγέλη τῶν χοίρων κατὰ τοῦ κρημνοῦ εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν, καὶ ἀπέθανον ἐν τοῖς ὕδασιν.

all that a man hath will he give for his life But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life, ii. 3-6. For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done, Acts iv. 28.

b And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand ;) and were choked in the sea, Mark v. 13.

VER. 33.

Οἱ δὲ βόσκοντες ἔφυγον· καὶ ἀπελθόντες εἰς τὴν πόλιν, ἀπήγγειλαν πάντα, καὶ τὰ τῶν δαιμονιζομένων.

a And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.

a And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done. Καὶ ἰδοὺ, προσέφερον αὐτῷ παραλυτικὸν ἐπὶ κλίνης βεβλημένον· καὶ ἰδὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὴν πίστιν αὐτῶν, εἶπετῷ παραλυτικῷ· Θάρ | σει τέκνον, ἀφέωνταί σοι αἱ ἁμαρτίαι σου.

And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith, said unto the sick of the palsy; e Son, d be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

a And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them. when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole, ver.22. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, be whole of thy plague, Mark v. 34. have ye any meat? They answered him, No, John xxi. 5.
