And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.

So they did eat, and were filled : and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.

VER. 9.

Ἦσαν δὲ οἱ φαγόντες, ὡς τετρακισχί λιος· καὶ ἀπέλυσεν αὐτούς.

And they that had eaten were about four thousand : and he sent them away. VER. 10.

Καὶ εὐθέως ἐμβὰς εἰς τὸ πλοῖον μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ, ἦλθεν εἰς τὰ μέρη Δαλμανουθά.

And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

Καὶ ἐξῆλθον οἱ Φαρισαῖοι, καὶ ἤρξαντο συζητεῖν αὐτῷ, ζητοῦντες παρ ̓ αὐτοῦ σημεῖον ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, πειράζοντες αὐτόν.

a And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

Καὶ ἀναστενάξας τῷ πνεύματι αὐτοῦ, λέγει· Τί ἡ γενεὰ αὕτη σημεῖον ἐπιζητεῖ; ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν εἰ δοθήσεται τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ σημεῖον.

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? Verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

Οφθαλμοὺς ἔχοντες οὐ βλέπετε; καὶ ὦτα ἔχοντες οὐκ ἀκούετε; καὶ οὐ μνημο νεύετε ;

Καὶ ἐπιλαβόμενος τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ τυφλοῦ, ἐξήγαγεν αὐτὸν ἔξω τῆς κώμης· καὶ πτύσας εἰς τὰ ὄμματα αὐτοῦ, ἐπιθεὶς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῷ, ἐπηρώτα αὐτὸν εἴ τι βλέπει.

a And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.

VER. 24.

Καὶ ἀναβλέψας, ἔλεγε· Βλέπω τοὺς ἀνθρώπους· ὅτι ὡς δένδρα ὁρῶ περιπα τοῦντας.

And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

VER. 25.

Εἶτα πάλιν ἐπέθηκε τὰς χεῖρας ἐπὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτὸν ἀναβλέψαι· καὶ ἀποκατεστάθη, καὶ ἐνέ βλεψε τηλαυγῶς ἅπαντας.

After that, he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, a and saw every man clearly.

a And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness, Isa. xxix.. 18. And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken, xxxii. 3.

Καὶ ἤρξατο διδάσκειν αὐτοὺς, ὅτι δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πολλὰ παθεῖν, καὶ ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων, καὶ ἀρχιερέων, καὶ γραμματέων, καὶ ἀποκταν θῆναι· καὶ μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἀναστῆναι.

a And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the Chief Priests, and Scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

VER. 32.

Καὶ παῤῥησίᾳ τὸν λόγον ἐλάλει. Καὶ προσλαβόμενος αὐτὸν ὁ Πέτρος, ἤρξατο ιἰπτιμᾶν αὐτῷ.

And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

VER. 33.

̔Ο δὲ ἐπιστραφεὶς, καὶ ἰδὼν τοὺς μαθη τὰς αὑτοῦ, ἐπετίμησε τῷ Πέτρῳ, λέγων· Ὕπαγε ὀπίσω μου, Σατανᾶ· ὅτι οὐ φρονεῖς τὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἀλλὰ τὰ τῶν ἀνθρώπων.

But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan : for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

VER. 34.

Καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τὸν ὄχλον σὺν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ, εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ὅστις θέλει ὀπίσω μου ἐλθεῖν, ἀπαρνησάσθω ἑαυτὸν, καὶ ἀράτω τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀκολουθείτω μοι.

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

VER. 35.

Ὃς γὰρ ἂν θέλῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὑτοῦ σῶ σαι, ἀπολέσει αὐτήν· ὃς δ ̓ ἂν ἀπολέσῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ καὶ τοῦ εὐαγγε λίου, οὗτος σώσει αὐτήν.

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the Gospel's, the same shall save it.

VER. 36.

τὸν κόσμον ὅλον, καὶ ζημιωθῇ τὴν ψυχὴν Τί γὰρ ὠφελήσει ἄνθρωπον, ἐὰν κερδήσῃ

αὐτοῦ;

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul ?

And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses : and they were talking with Jesus.

Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Πέτρος λέγει τῷ Ἰησοῦ· Ραββὶ, καλόν ἐστιν ἡμὰς ὧδε εἶναι· καὶ ποιήσωμεν σκηνὰς τρεῖς, σοὶ μίαν, καὶ Μωσεί μίαν, και Ηλίᾳ μίαν.

Καὶ τὸν λόγον ἐκράτησαν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς συζητοῦντες τί ἐστι τὸ, ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῆναι.

a And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.

a But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him,ver. 32. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord. This shall not be unto thee, Matt. xvi. 22. And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken, Luke xviii. 34. Then he said unto them, Ο fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? xxiv. 25, 26. Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye Οὐ γὰρ ἔδει τί λαλήσῃ ἦσαν γὰρ shall not see me : and again, a little κάφοβοι.

And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

Καὶ ὅπου ἂν αὐτὸν καταλάβῃ, ῥήσσει αὐτόν· καὶ ἀφρίζει, καὶ τρίζει τοὺς ὀδόντας αὑτοῦ, καὶ ξηραίνεται· καὶ εἶπον τοῖς μα θηταῖς σου ἵνα αὐτὸ ἐκβάλωσι, καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν.

And wheresoever he taketh him, he * teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could

not.

Ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς αὐτῷ, λέγει· Ω γενεὰ ἄπιστος, ἕως πότε πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἔσομαι ; ἕως πότε ἀνέξομαι ὑμῶν ; φέρετε αὐτὸν πρός με.

He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? Bring him unto me.

Καὶ ἤνεγκαν αὐτὸν πρὸς αὐτόν· καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὸν, εὐθέως τὸ πνεῦμα ἐσπάραξεν αὐτόν· καὶ πέσων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, ἐκυλίετο ἀφρίζων.

And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway a the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed, foaming.

And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, of a child.
