I SHALL be satisfied, when I awake, with thy

likeness.

PSALM Xvii. 15.

WHY should I murmur? for the sorrow
Thus only longer-lived would be:
Its end may come, and will, to-morrow,
When God has done his work in me;
So I say, trusting, - as God will!"
And, trusting to the end, hold still.

JULIUS STURM.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who, of thy ten

der love towards mankind, hast sent thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, to take upon him our flesh, and to suffer death upon the cross, that all mankind should follow the example of his great humility; mercifully grant, that we may both follow the example of his patience, and also be made partakers of his resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

WHO is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God.

ISAIAH 1. 10.

BUT flowers need night's cool darkness,
The moonlight and the dew;

So Christ, from one who loved it,

His shining oft withdrew;

And then, for cause of absence,
My troubled soul I scanned-
But glory, shadeless, shineth
In Immanuel's land.

MERCIFUL SAVIOUR, remove every cloud that now darkens my soul, and shine upon me, O thou Sun of Righteousness, with healing in thy wings. Take away all that hinders me from enjoying peace, and restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, for thine own blessed Name's sake. Amen.

HE that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most
High, shall abide under the shadow of the Al-
mighty.
PSALM Xci. I.

It is a thought which ever makes
Life's sweetest smiles from tears;
It is a day-break to our hopes,
A sunset to our fears.

One while it bids the tears to flow,
Then wipes them from the eyes;
Most often fills our soul with joy,
And always sanctifies.

FABER.

AL LMIGHTY LORD, who art a most strong tower to all those who put their trust in thee, be now and evermore our defence, we beseech thee, for our Lord Jesus Christ's sake, our only Saviour and Redeemer. Amen.

WHEN my spirit was overwhelmed within me,

then thou knewest my path.

PSALM CXlii. 3.

IT was no path of flowers
Through this dark world of ours,
Beloved of the Father, thou didst tread :

And shall we in dismay

Shrink from the narrow way,

When clouds and darkness are around it spread?

S. E. MILES.

HEAR, O Lord, our prayers, and enter not into judgment with thy servants: for we acknowledge thee the fountain of pity, whereby we trust to be delivered from our distresses, through the merits of our Saviour Jesus Christ thy Son. Amen.

[blocks in formation]

MAY thy perpetual gifts, O Lord, be confirmed to thy faithful servants, that, in receiving them, they may seek thee, and in seeking thee may endlessly receive them, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
