HE giveth power to the faint have no might he increaseth

and to them that strength. ISAIAH xl. 29.

LET but my fainting heart be blest
With thy sweet spirit for its guest,
My God, to thee I leave the rest!
Thy will be done!

Renew my will from day to day,
Blend it with thine; and take away
All that now makes it hard to say
Thy will be done.

CHARLOTTE ELLIOTT.

GUIDE us in thy way, O Christ, and mercifully show the fountain of wisdom to our thirsting minds; that we may be free from sorrowful heaviness, and may drink in the sweetness of life eternal, through thine own merits and intercession.

Amen.

WHEN thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. ISAIAH xliii. 2.

EVERY phase of human sorrow fills the path we tread to-day,

Harps are hanging on the willows, souls are fainting by

the way;

But there still is balm in Gilead, and though here on earth we weep,

God within the many mansions, giveth his beloved sleep.

GOD, our refuge in pains, our strength in weakness, our help in tribulations, our solace in tears; spare thy people who trust in thee, and deliver them out of tribulation, for our Redeemer's sake. Amen.

HOW excellent is thy loving kindness, O God, therefore the children of men put their trust

under the shadow of thy wings.

PSALM Xxxvi. 7.

My God, the spring of all my joys,
The life of my delights,

The glory of my brightest days,
And comfort of my nights.

In darkest shades if he appear,
My dawning is begun :

He is my soul's sweet morning-star,

And he my rising sun.

ISAAC WATTS, 1709.

WE beseech thee, O Lord, in thy loving-kindness to pour thy holy light into our souls: that we may ever be devoted to thee, by whose wisdom we were created and by whose providence we are governed. We ask for Christ's sake. Amen.

COME unto me, all ye that labor and are heavyladen, and I will give you rest.

MATT. xi. 28.

O most merciful,

O most bountiful,

God the Father almighty!

By the Redeemer's

Sweet intercession,

Hear us, help us, when we cry!

HEBER.

CHRIST, Son of God, whom God the Father gave

up for all, when he received thee as a true sacrifice for us receive the desires of thy people: save those whom thou hast redeemed, give life to those whom thou hast delivered, and at last, everlasting joy in the life to come, for thine own Name's sake. Amen.

THE very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. I THESS. V. 23.

SOFT as the fall of sea-bird on the billow's crest,
The Holy Ghost doth lighten on a sinner's breast,
Calming its passions into rest.

Spread thou within my heart, O Holy Dove,
The pure white pinions of thy love.

Nor may one wave of sin
Mar thy repose therein.

A. E. HAMILTON.

GOD the Father, good beyond all that is good, fair beyond all that is fair, in whom is peace, keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls, through the grace, mercy, and tenderness of thine only begotten Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
