THERE is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.

ROM. viii. I.

UNWORTHY, Lord, are we,

The latchet of thy sandal to untie ;
Yet thou, O God, from thine eternity
Dost come forth clothed with our humanity;
Most wondrous of all wondrous mystery,
The Maker, and yet servant, of our race;
And in the awful grandeur of thy grace
Bending before us on thy human knee,
Dost wash the dust of sin from our poor feet,
That they may tread unchallenged heaven's street.

A. E. H.

BEING cleansed by thy precious blood, O Christ, may we ever render unto thee a pure worship; through

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

MY kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.

ISAIAH liv. Io.

TEACH me, O Father, this truth to discover,
That in the snow-flakes which over us hover,
Skies all aglow or aflame,

Grief that depresses, or gladness that raises,
I of thy love see the manifold phases,
Love that is ever the same.

W. M. L. JAY.

LORD, we bless thee for thine innumerable benefits bestowed on us thy unworthy creatures. Give us true gratitude, that we may serve thee all the days of our life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

GLORY to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will to men.

LUKE ii. 14.

THE happy Christmas comes once more,
The heavenly guest is at the door :
The blessed words the shepherds thrill,
The joyous tidings: peace, good will!

O wake our hearts, in gladness sing!
And keep our Christmas with our king,
Till living song, from loving souls,
Like sound of mighty waters rolls.

TRANSLATED FROM THE DANISH, BY C. P. KRAUTH.

GOD, who hast made this most sacred night to shine with the illumination of the true light: grant that we may joyfully receive thine only begotten Son as our Redeemer, for his sake. Amen.

CHRISTMAS DAY.

BEHOLD, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. LUKE ii. 10, II.

STARS, earth, and all the spreading sea,
With heaven's unknown immensity,
With a new song salute the morn,
When, Saviour, thou on earth wert born.
And we, whose souls the sacred wave
Of thy dear blood from sin doth lave,
Hail with warm hearts thy natal day,
And in glad hymns our tribute pay.

TRANS. BY BISHOP WILLIAMS.

GRANT, O merciful God, that he who was born this

day to be the Saviour of the world, as he is the Author of divine birth, so may be himself the bestower of our immortality, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

LOOKING unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who, for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.. HEB. xii. 2.

FOR him the silver ladder shall be set;
His Saviour shall receive his latest breath;
He walketh to a fadeless coronet

Up through the gate of death!

GRANT, O Lord, that in all our sufferings here upon

earth for the testimony of thy truth, we may steadfastly look up to heaven, and by faith behold the glory that shall be revealed; and, being filled with the Holy Ghost, may behold thee, O blessed Jesus, who standest at the right hand of God to succor all those who suffer for thee, our only mediator and advocate. Amen.
