YET the Lord will command his loving kindness in the day-time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. PSALM xlii. 8.

WHEN dancing sunbeams 'round me shine,
And peace and happiness embrace,

I know the glory is not mine,

But just the brightness of thy face !

When darkness gathers 'round my path,
And all my song-birds cease to sing,

I know it is not sent in wrath,

'T is but the shadow of thy wing!

W. M. L. JAY.

THINE is the day, O Lord, and thine is the night: grant that the sun of righteousness may abide in our hearts, to drive away all the darkness of sin or of sorrow, for Jesus' sake. Amen.

GIVE us this day our daily bread.

MATT. vi. II.

I THINK not of to-morrow,
Its trial, or its task,
But still with childlike spirit
For present mercies ask.
With each returning morning,
I cast old things away:
Life's journey lies before me :
My prayer is for to-day.

SINCE it is of thy mercy, O gracious Father, that another day is added to our lives, we dedicate both our souls and our bodies to thee and thy service in a sober, righteous, and godly life, that as we grow in age we may grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

FOR I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.

JER. xxxi. 25.

LORD, dwell within my heart, and fill
Its emptiness;

Set thou its hope above the reach
Of earthliness;

Baptize its love, through suffering,
Into thine own,

And work in me a faith that rests
On Christ alone.

A. S. K.

I BELIEVE, O my God and Father: do thou help mine unbelief; and every day more and more increase my faith, till itself shall be done away, and turned into the most perfect vision of thee: for Christ's sake. Amen.

WAIT on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on PSALM Xxvii. 14.

the Lord.

BREAK through the brambles and briers that obstruct

thee;

Dread not the gloom and the blackness of night:

Lean on the hand that will safely conduct thee;
Trust to his eye to whom darkness is light.

GRANT, O Lord, we beseech thee, that they who lean only upon the hope of thy heavenly grace may evermore be defended by thy mighty power, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

from all sin.

THE blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us I JOHN i. 7. Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord.

LAM. iii. 40.

No mortal lives, with record black as mine,
Who ne'er has done aught worthy praise divine,
Save this, that my sole trust I've placed in thee;
My hope alone is in thy pardon free;

No treasure bring I thee this trust besides.

O God! leave not the soul that thus confides.
FROM THE PERSIAN. SAADI, 13TH CENTURY.

LORD, take my heart, for I cannot give it, and when thou hast it, oh, keep it, for I cannot keep it for thee, and save me in spite of myself, for Jesus Christ's sake.

Amen.
