The Prayer of Confecration.

Lmighty God, our heavenly Father, who of thy tender mercy didft give thine only Son Jefus Chrift to fuffer death upon the Cross for our redemption, who made there (by his one oblation of himself once offered) a full, perfect, and fufficient facrifice, oblation, and fatisfaction for the fins of the whole world, and did institute, and in his holy Gofpel command us to continue a perpetual memory of that his precious Death, until his coming again; Hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly befeech thee, and grant that we receiving thefe thy creatures of Bread and Wine, according to thy Son our Saviour Jefus Chrifts holy institution, in remembrance of his Death and Paffion, may be partakers of his most bleffed Body and Blood: Who in the fame night that he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks he brake it, and gave it to his difciples, faying, Take, eat, this is my Body which is given for you, do this in remembrance of me. Likewife after Supper he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, faying, Drink ye all of this, for this is my Blood of the New Teftament, which is fhed for you, and for many for the remiffion of fins: Do this, as oft as ye fhall drink it, in remembrance of me. Amen..

A Prayer to be said before receiving the Sacrament.. Lift my Soul unto thee, my God, humbly imploring thee graciously to affift me in the Duty I am going to perform. Let the remembrance of my Sins, and of my Saviour's bitter fufferings for them create in me a hearty Repentance of them, and engage me for ever to love and ferve him who laid down bis life for me. Cleanfe me, O Lord, from all filthiness of Flesh and Spirit, that I may be a meet Guest at thy Table, and a real partaker of those Benefits which Chrift hath purchased for me: and accept of thefe my fin cere Defires through the fame Jefus Chrift.

At the delivery of the Bread.

HE Body of our Lord Jefus Chrift, which was given for tace, preferve thy body and foul unto everlafting life. Take

and eat this in remembrance that Chrift died for thee, and feed on him in thy heart by faith with thanksgiving.

Τ

At the delivery of the Cup.

HE Blood of our Lord Jefus Chrift, which was fhed for thee, preferve thy body and foul unto everlasting life. Drink this in remembrance that Chrifts Blood was fhed for thee, and be thankful.

A Prayer after receiving the Sacrament.

Praise and magnify thy glorious Name, O God, for the opportunity thou haft afforded me this Day, of commemorating thy unSpeakable Love, in the Redemption of the World by thy Son Jefus Chrift; and of making this publick profeffion of my Faith in bim. Let it be an eternal obligation upon me of Love and Obedience to thee. And O grant me fuch a measure of thy Grace and affiftance, as may enable me to be more careful and diligent in the discharge of my Duty; and to walk as the redeemed of the Lord, in all holiness and godliness of Life, through the fame Jefus Christ our Saviour. Our Father, &c.

Lord and heavenly Father, we thy humble fervants, entirely defire thy Fatherly goodnefs, mercifully to accept this our facrifice of praise and thanksgiving; moft humbly befeeching thee to grant, that by the merits and death of thy Son Jefus Chrift, and through faith in his Blood, we and all thy whole Church may obtain remiffion of our fins, and all other benefits of his paffion. And here we offer and prefent unto thee, O Lord, ourselves, our fouls, and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy, and lively facrifice unto thee; humbly befeeching thee, that all we who are partakers of this holy Communion, may be fulfilled with thy grace and heavenly benediction. And although we be unworthy through our manifold fins to offer unto thee any facrifice; yet we beseech thee to accept this our bounden duty and fervice; not weighing our merits, but pardoning our offences, through Jefus Chrift our Lord; by whom, and with whom, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, all honour and glory be unto thee, O Father Almghty, world with. Amen.

And we most humbly befeech thee, O heavenly Father, so to affift us with thy grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all fuch good works as thou haft prepared for us to walk in, through Jefus Chrift our Lord, to whom with thee, and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory world without end. Morning Prayer.

THE FIRST DA Y.

§ Pfalm i. Beatus vir, qui abiit.

LESSED is the man that hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor ftood in the way of finners: and hath not fat in the feat of the fcornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord: and in his law will he exercife himself day and night.

3 *And he fhall be like a tree planted by the water-fide: that will bring forth his fruit in due feafon.

4 His leaf alfo fhall not wither: and look, whatfoever he doeth, it fhall profper.

5 As for the ungodly, it is not fo with them: but they are like the chaff which the wind scattereth away from the face of the earth.

This Pfalm is like a recommendatory Preface to the whole following collection: and defcribes the conduct and happiness of the Righteous, and the mifery of the Wicked. The condition of the former is reprefented by a flourishing fruitful Tree; of the latter by Chaff which as it is unprofitable in itfelf, fo it is eafily difperfed by the Winds.

• And he fall be like a Tree, &c. The Tree here

alluded to was probably the Palm; because it natu-
rally flourishes moft near Water, and is an Evergreen:
and is a proper emblem of a good Man, who is con-
tinually watered by the Streams of the divine favour-
and who flourishes equally amidst the wintry scenes of
Adverfity, and the Summer-funs of Profperity; because
God maketh all Things work together for goed, to them
that love him. See Pfalm xcii. 12.
