Das Schottische, die Sprache Niederschottlands, gelangt früh zur §. 18. Ausbildung und zu selbständiger literärischer Verwendung. I canna, winna, dinna (I cannot, will not, do not). Die besonderen politischen Verbindungen Schottlands und Frankreichs haben auch französische Wörter eingeführt, die dem Englischen fehlen, wie: bon allie Abschiedstrunk vor der Abreise, corbie Rabe, fasheous verdrießlich, lurdon Tölpel etc.
