THE ACTS, XI.
A. D. 41,

30 And Cornelius said, Four days go I was fasting until this hour; nd at the ninth hour I prayed in x ch.1.10. ny house, and, behold, a man tood before mer in bright clothag,

31 And said, Cornelius, thy y prayer s heard, and thine alms are had in emembrance in the sight of God. 32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname s Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner, by the seaside who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.

33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee: and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now z therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, of a truth I perceive that God a is no respecter of persons:

35 But in c every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they a that were of the circumcision contended with him, 3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with

them.

4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

51 was in the city of Joppa, praying: and in a trance I saw a Vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

6 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay, and eat.

8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou com

mon.

10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

11 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Cesarea unto me.

12 And the Spirit c bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover, these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house:

13 And he showed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

14 Who shall tell thee words, d whereby thou and all thy house

CHAPTER XII.

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentilesk granted repentance unto life.

19 Now they I which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen, travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but m unto the Jews only. 20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, n preaching the Lord Jesus.

21 And the o hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned p unto the Lord. 22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas,g that he should go as far as Antioch. 23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad r and exhorted s them all, that with purpose t of u heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

24 For he was a good man, and full v of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and w much people was added unto the Lord.

25 Then z departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves: 1 with the church, and taughty much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. 27 And in these days came z prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quarternions of soldiers, to keep him; intending af ter Easter, to bring him forth to the people.

5 Peter therefore was kept in pri son: but 2 prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

7 And, behold, the angele of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. 8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy san dals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist notg that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.h

10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city, which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the an gel departed from him.

11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath k delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

12 And when he had considered Ps.33.18,19. the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many! were gathered together, praying. 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

The Jews blaspheme.

TOW there were in the church e ch.18.4. that was at Antioch, certain prophets and teachers; as Barna- ƒ ver.27. bas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, 1 which had been brought & He. 13.22. up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

4T So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews and they had also John to their minis

6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus;

7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.

8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation,, withstood c them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

9 Then Saul. (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,

10 And said, O full of all stubtlety and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing d from them, returned to Jerusalem.

14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue e on the sabbath-day, and sat down.

15 And after the readingf of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word g of exhortation for the people say on.

16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand, said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.

20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and 1 had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium and Antioch,

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continues in the faith, and that we t must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from u whence they had been recommended to the grace v of God for the work which they fulfilled.

27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church to gether, they rehearsed to all that
