MORVA RHUDDLAN, or the Red Marfh, on the banks of the CLWYD in FLINTSHIRE, was the fcene of many Battles of the
Welth with the Saxons. At the memorable conflict in 795, the Welfh were unfuccefsful and their Monarch CARADOC flain.
It is unknown whether this celebrated Time took its name from this or fome later occafion. The words now adapted to the
Tune are verfified from a fragment Publifhed in the Letters from Snowdon. This plaintive ftyle, fo predominant in Welfh
Mufic, is well adapted to melancholy fubjects. Our Mufic probably received a Pathetic tincture from our diftrefses under the
opprefsion of the Saxons.
