At the Twenty-fifth Annual Meeting of the Church Missionary Society for Africa and the East, held in Freemasons' Hall, Great Queen Street, on Tuesday, May 3, 1825.

The Right Hon. LORD GAMBIER, Vice-Patron and President, in the Chair.

The Report of the Committee having been read by the Secretaries, and the Statement of the
Accounts of the Twenty-fifth Year,

On a Motion by the Right Hon. Lord Bexley, seconded by the Very Reverend the
Dean of Salisbury,

RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY,

That the Report, an Abstract of which has been read, be received and printed, under the direction of the Committee; and that this Meeting feels unfeigned thankfulness to God for the large increase in the Society's Income during the Year just closed, and for the various indications of a cordial reception of Divine Truth by the Heathen which the Report records.

On a Motion by the Right Hon. Lord Calthorpe, seconded by Lieut. Col. Phipps, RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY,

That, recognising the efficacy, under the Blessing of God, of Female Influence, when rightly directed, in instilling and cherishing early principles of piety, and thus not only meliorating the condition of Human Society, but widely diffusing the most substantial blessings, the Meeting rejoices in the formation, under distinguished patronage, of the Calcutta Native Female-School Society; and earnestly recommends the support of the Fund opened in this Country, in aid of that Institution.

On a Motion by the Rev. John William Cunningham, seconded by the Rev. Charles
James Hoare,

RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY,

That this Meeting learns with cordial satisfaction, the opening of the Society's Institution at Islington for the preparation of Missionaries for their arduous labours; and, that looking at the advantages which may reasonably be expected from an Establishment of this nature, and at the inadequacy of the supply of Teachers hitherto placed at the disposal of the Committee, the Meeting calls on the friends of the Society to supplicate the Blessing of Almighty God on an undertaking so intimately connected with the efficiency of the Society's operations.

On a Motion by the Right Hon. Sir G. H. Rose, Bart. M.P., seconded by the Rev.
R. P. Beachcroft,

RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY,

That, though this Meeting has to deplore in the West-Africa Mission occurrences of a painful nature, arising out of the death and removal of many of the Society's Labourers, yet past experience of the happy effects, under the Divine Blessing, of the wise and affectionate discharge of the Christian Ministry among the Liberated Africans, encourages the Meeting to look forward to similar results when the Mission shall be adequately supplied with Labourers; which it is hoped will be accomplished by the acceptance, on the part of a sufficient number of Clergymen, of the proposal for Limited Service in Africa, lately issued by the Committee.

On a Motion by the Right Hon. the Earl of Rocksavage, seconded by the Rev.
Fountain Elwin,

RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY,

That, adverting to the experience derived through a period of twenty-five years, this Meeting desires to cherish among the Members of the Society simplicity of intention in prosecuting its great object; fervent prayer to Almighty God for His favour and blessing; and entire dependence for success on the influences of the Holy Spirit alone.

On a Motion by James Stephen, Esq., jun. seconded by the Rev. William Dealtry, RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY,

That the sincere thanks of the Society be given to the Noble President of the Institution, to the other Vice-Patrons, and to the Vice-Presidents, for their continued protection; to the Treasurer, for his assistance; to the Rev. J. B. Sumner, M.A. for his valuable Sermon before the Society last evening; to such Clergymen and other Gentlemen as have, during the last year, prepared or supported Associations; to the Younger Friends of the Society; to those Ladies who, in various places, have very successfully exerted themselves in promoting its interests; and to the Committee for their exertions: and that the following Gentlemen are appointed the Committee for the ensuing year. (See List, after Vice-Presidents.)
