THE DAY OF JUDGMENT.

hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand,

Come, ye blessed of my Father,

inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we Thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer, and say unto them, Verily I say unto you,

Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren,

ye have done it unto me.

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat : I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we Thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily, I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of Man is betrayed to be crucified.

And in the day time he was teaching in the temple ; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives. And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.

Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the passover. Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas. And consulted and sought how they might take Jesus by subtilty, and craft, and put him to death. But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people: for they feared the people.

Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them; and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them. And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him. And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples came to Jesus, and said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and

prepare that thou mayest eat the passover? And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? And he saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall meet you a man, bearing a pitcher of water: follow him, into the house where he entereth in. And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And he will shew you a large upper room, furnished and prepared: there make ready for us. And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and did as Jesus had appointed them, and found as he had said unto them and they made ready the passover.

THANKSGIVING.

Christ our passover is sacrificed for us; therefore let us keep the feast; not with the old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Almighty Father, who hast given thine only Son to die for our sins, and to rise again for our justification; grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness, that we may alway serve thee in pureness of living and truth, through the merits of the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Questions on Section XXII.

What is the predicted manner of the second coming of Christ to judge the world?

How is the careless conduct of mankind in general, before the judgments of the Lord, characterised; and what warning to the followers of Christ is founded thereupon?

In what terms are we warned against suffering our minds to be absorbed in the cares or the pleasures of this life? Repeat the parable of the wise and the foolish virgins. The parable of the servants entrusted with talents by their master.

How does this parable intimate, that not only the actively wicked, but those also who forget God, shall be cast into hell?

Repeat our Lord's remarkable account of the proceedings that shall take place at the Day of Judgment.

What induced Judas to betray Christ?

How does Christ direct Peter and John to prepare the passover?

THE LIFE OF CHRIST.

SECTION XXIII.

From the Institution of the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, to his Exhortation to mutual Love and Endurance.

PRAYER.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of thy great mercy hast promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto Thee, have mercy upon us; pardon and deliver us from all our sins; confirm and strengthen us in all goodness; and bring us to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. And in the evening he cometh with the twelve. And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
