HYMNS OF FAITH AND LIFE.

1.

I.

God: His Worship and Glory.

Be joyful in the Lord.

LL people that on earth do dwell,

ALI

Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;
Him serve with mirth, His praise forth tell,
Come ye before Him, and rejoice.

2. The Lord, ye know, is God indeed,
Without our aid He did us make;
We are His flock, He doth us feed,
And for His sheep He doth us take.

3. O enter then His gates with praise,

Approach with joy His courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless His name always,
For it is seemly so to do.

4. For why? the Lord our God is good;
His mercy is for ever sure;

His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.

Worship the King.

IO.IO.II. II.

WORSHIP the King, all-glorious above;

O gratefully sing His power and His love; Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of days, Pavilioned in splendour, and girded with praise. 2. O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,

Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space; His chariots of wrath th' deep thunder clouds form, And dark is His path on the wings of the storm. 3. The earth with its store of wonders untold, Almighty, Thy power hath founded of old; Hath stablished it fast by a changeless decree, And round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea. 4. Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite? It breathes in the air, it shines in the light; It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain, And sweetly distils in the dew and the rain.

5. Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,

3.

I.

In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail ;
Thy mercies how tender! how firm to the end!
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.

Worship the Lord.

Sir R. Grant.

12.10.12.10.

WORSHIP the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Bow down before Him, His glory proclaim; With gold of obedience and incense of lowliness, Kneel and adore Him, the Lord is His name. 2. Low at His feet lay thy burden of carefulness; High on His heart He will bear it for thee, Comfort thy sorrows, and answer thy prayerfulness, Guiding thy steps as may best for thee be.

3. Fear not to enter His courts in the slenderness Of the poor wealth thou wouldst reckon as thine; Truth in its beauty, and love in its tenderness,

These are the offerings to lay on His shrine.

4. O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Bow down before Him, His glory proclaim; With gold of obedience and incense of lowliness, Kneel and adore Him, the Lord is His name.

Universal Worship.

7. S. B. Monsell.

THOU, to whom, in ancient time,

The lyre of Hebrew bards was strung;
Whom kings adored in song sublime,
And prophets praised with glowing tongue;

2. Not now on Zion's height alone,
Thy favoured worshippers may dwell,
Nor where, at sultry noon, Thy Son
Sat weary by the patriarch's well;

3. From every place below the skies,

The grateful song, the fervent prayer,
The incense of the heart may rise
To heaven, and find acceptance there.

4. To Thee shall age, with snowy hair,
And strength and beauty bend the knee;
And childhood lisp, with reverent air,
Its praises and its prayers to Thee.

5. O Thou, to whom, in ancient time,
The lyre of prophet bards was strung,
To Thee at last, in every clime,
Shall temples rise, and praise be sung.
