THEY go from strength to strength: every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.

PSALM lxxxiv. 7.

THEN, fainting soul, arise and sing!
Mount, but be sober on the wing:
Mount up, for heaven is won by prayer;
Be sober for thou art not there;
Till death the weary spirit free,
Thy God hath said, 't is good for thee
To walk by faith, and not by sight:
Take it on trust a little while;
Soon shalt thou read the mystery right
In the full sunshine of his smile.

Keble.

LORD of all power and might, who art the author and giver of all good things; graft in our hearts the love of thy Name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and of thy great mercy keep us in the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

SURELY I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him. ECCL. viii. 12.

How blessed is the calm and single eye,
Which all things set in God doth see!
Life's greatness, littleness, its joy or grief,
As stands against the background of the sky,
The outline of each spire, mountain, tree,
Its azure showing forth the smallest leaf.

WE beseech thee, O Lord, in thy compassion, to in

crease our faith in thee; because thou wilt not deny the aid of thy loving kindness to those on whom thou bestowest a steadfast faith in thee. We ask it for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

BE strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee, he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. DEUT. xxxi. 6.

I KNOW it - I believe it
I say it fearlessly,

That God the highest, mightiest,
Forever loveth me.

At all times, in all places,
He standeth at my side;
He rules the battle's fury,
The tempest, and the tide.

PAUL GERHARDT.

WE rejoice, O Lord our God, in thy almighty power and glory. Raise thou us up with thee, O Saviour, above all earthly desires. Inspire us with thoughts of joy, of hope, and love, and help us to praise thy Name in this our earthly pilgrimage, for Jesus' sake.

Amen.

AS many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.

REV. iii. 19.

SOMETHING to love

God lends us, but when love is grown
To ripeness, that on which it throve
Falls off and love is left alone.

MERCIFUL God, and heavenly Father, who hast taught us in thy holy Word that thou dost not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men; look with pity upon our sorrows. Remember us, O Lord, in mercy : sanctify thy fatherly correction to us; lift up thy countenance upon us, and give us peace, for Jesus' sake.

Amen.

MY lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.

PSALM lxxi. 23.

THY heart in joy upleapeth,
Grief cannot linger there;
She singeth high in glory
Amidst the sunshine fair;
The sun that shines upon me,
Is Jesus and his love:
The fountain of my singing,

Is deep in heaven above.

PAUL GERHARDT.

GOD, thou art very love! he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in thee. Who shall separate me from the love of Christ my Saviour? Oh! that neither life, nor death, nor any creature, may have power to do so! Make me all thine own, O Jesus! I ask it for thine own Name's sake. Amen.
