YE shall not be afraid of the face of man: for the judgment is God's.

DEUT. i. 17.

IF he who doth in secret see

Approve our work, small need have we
Of earthly fame or eulogy.

Grant only, Lord, that in thy sight
We walk as children of the light,
And 'neath thy banner bravely fight.

E. D., Sunday Magazine.

GRANT to us, Lord, we beseech thee, the spirit to think and do always such things as are right; that we who cannot do anything that is good without thee, may by thee be enabled to live according to thy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FOR thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ISAIAH lvii. 15.

ones.

THE Almighty, from his throne, on earth surveys
Nought greater than an honest, humble heart;
An humble heart, his residence! pronounced
His second seat; and rival to the skies.

YOUNG'S Night Thoughts.

GOD the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who art everywhere present, and fillest all things, come and dwell in us, purify us from every stain, and save our souls in thy goodness, for Christ's sake. Amen.

YEA, they may forget: yet will I not forget thee

ISAIAH xlix. 15.

I BEAR thy name :

Thy love, dear Lord, have I not long confessed?
That love 's the same

As when, like John, I leaned upon thy breast,
And knew I loved; oh, which of us has changed.
Am I from thee estranged?

O Lord, thou changest not: I know the rest!

THAT it may please thee to give us true repentance ; to forgive us all our sins, negligences, and ignorances; and to endue us with the grace of thy Holy Spirit to amend our lives according to thy word: we beseech thee to hear us, good Lord, for Jesus' sake.

Amen.

I WILL commune with thee from above the

mercy-seat.

EXODUS xxv. 22.

THAT God had once whispered a word in thine ear,
Or sent thee from heaven one sorrow for sin,

Is enough for a life, both to banish all fear,
And to turn into peace all the troubles within.

Then how can the heart e'er be drooping or sad,
Which God hath once touched with the light of his
grace?

Can the child have a doubt, who but lately hath laid
Himself to repose in his father's embrace?

FABER.

HOLY SPIRIT, the Comforter, descend into our hearts, that whilst thou makest intercession for us, we may with full confidence call upon thee, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold

your peace.

EXODUS xiv. 14.

THE life that is the blessedest
Is not always the brightest ;
And hearts that seek no present rest
Are evermore the lightest.

Each human heart from out the strong
May bring the hidden sweetness,
By trusting him who wields the wrong
To work the right's completeness.

L.

IT is good to hold fast by thee, O Lord: but do thou so increase in us the desire of good, that the hope which joins us to thee may not be shaken by any wavering of faith, but may endure in steadfastness of love, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
