GREAT shall be the peace of thy children.

ÍSAIAH liv. 13.

OUR restless spirits yearn for thee
Where'er our changeful lot is cast;
Glad, when thy gracious smile we see;
Blest, when our faith can hold thee fast.
O Jesus, ever with us stay.

Make all our moments calm and bright:
Chase the dark night of sin away;
Shed o'er the world thy holy light!

S. BERNARD, TRANS. BY RAY PALMER.

GOD, who art the author of peace, and in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom; defend us in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THEN spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. JOHN viii. 12.

THE cloud that nearest to the moon doth lie
Shineth the brightest in the midnight sky;
The pathway of that Christian is most bright
Which cleaveth closest unto Christ the light.

E. H.

HEAR us, O never-failing light, Lord our God, the fountain of light: may our souls be lamps of thine, kindled and illuminated by thee. Being filled with the splendor of thy Son, may we shine forth inwardly may the gloom of sins be cleared away, and the light of perpetual faith abide with us. We ask it for Jesus' sake. Amen.

BRINGING into captivity every thought to the

obedience of Christ.

2 COR. X. 5.

O WAY for all that live! heal us by pain and loss,
Fill all our years with toil, and bless us with thy rod,
Thy bonds bring wider freedom; climbing by thy cross
Wins that brave height where looms the city of our
God.

F. D. HUNTINGTON.

THOU most gracious Saviour of the world, redeemed by thy precious blood, I flee unto thee in lowliness of mind, and with deepest affection of my heart. Because thou didst offer thyself as the price of my redemption, I too, O most loving Jesus, do offer my whole self unto thee. Vouchsafe in all things so to direct and govern me, that nothing which may befall me may separate me from thee! Amen.

THE memory of the just is blessed.

PROV. X. 7.

SLEEP here in peace!

This is the gate for thee to life immortal,
This is the entrance to the pearly portal, —
The pathway trod by saints and sages olden,
Whose feet now walk Jerusalem the golden.
Sleep here in peace!

J. E. RANKIN.

WE thank thee, O Lord, that, through faith in our

merciful Saviour, we shall at length be brought, in thy paradise above, unto the haven where our souls would be; that in our Father's house are many mansions, where thou hast prepared a place for us; and that we shall be like unto thee, O Christ; for we shall see thee as thou art. Unto thy Name be the glory, world without end. Amen.

BE ye therefore perfect, even which is in heaven is perfect.

as your Father MATT. v. 48.

SWEETEN my bitter-thoughted heart

With charity like thine,

Till self shall be the only spot

On earth which does not shine.

Would that my soul might be a world
Of golden ether bright,

A heaven where other souls might float,
Like all thy worlds, in light.

FABER.

WE pray thee, O Lord, be present to thy suppliants; and amid the snares of a wicked world, protect our weakness with never-failing love: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
