This very interesting volume makes us acquainted with very important facts connected with the efforts of the American Government to suppress the Slave Trade on the Coast of Africa. Lieut. FOOTE not only places before us a record of what occurred whilst he was in command of the U. S. Brig "Perry," but gives us an account of the History and Government of the African Race-their Manners and Customs, an Account of the Establishment of the Commonwealth of Liberia, its Condition, Prospects, &c., &c. It abounds with every variety of incident and adventure, and will, from the very novelty of the subject, have a wide sale. In order that some idea may be formed of the cha racter of the work, a selection from the table of contents is prefixed.
